How it works

If you receive a qualifying mobility scheme allowance, you can swap all or part of it for a brand-new car. Different adaptations are also available to help you use your vehicle.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you must receive a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months left and have a valid UK driving licence. This can be yours or a nominated driver. Please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Scheme.

UK GOVERNMENT TAX UPDATE

Following the UK Government tax changes, some careful updates are being made to make sure the Scheme remains sustainable long term. These changes will take effect on all new orders from 1 July 2026:

• Mileage allowance: total allowance of 30,000 miles for a three-year lease
• Tyre replacement: six tyres during a three-year lease, up to four for damage
• EU breakdown: customers will need to pay an admin fee for a VE103 certificate and let the RAC know when they are travelling outside of the UK
VAT and Insurance Premium tax will now apply to most new leases ordered from 1 July 2026. For customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland, these changes will apply to new orders from 1 September 2026.
